Privacy Policy

EarthTune is built by Aether Tools. It works without an account. This policy describes what the app keeps on your device, what it requests from our observatory feed, and what our servers and our network provider record when it does.

Information we collect

We do not ask for personal information. EarthTune has no account system, no login, and no analytics. We never receive your session history or magnetometer readings. The only things that leave your device are the feed requests described below, with the network details every internet request carries.

The observatory feed

Observatory processing happens on our server, not on your phone. Our backend downloads public ELF observatory spectrograms (for example Tomsk), extracts Earth’s Schumann fundamental, and, when available, adds NOAA SWPC space-weather data. Your phone never contacts the observatories or NOAA itself.

EarthTune automatically requests the current reading (/v1/now) and recent history (/v1/history) from https://earthtune.aethertools.us while the app is in use. These are plain HTTPS requests with a generic app User-Agent (the EarthTune version and “iOS”). They carry no name, email, account, device, or advertising identifier.

Profile lets you point the app at a different feed URL. Clearing that field does not turn networking off.

If the stations go stale or the feed can’t be reached, sessions keep running on Offline Anchor, a trailing average of the observation history available, and the app says so. If no observation has been received at all, the app uses a typical 7.83 Hz reference, labeled “not measured.” It is not a measurement and not an average. When NOAA data is unavailable, the app shows that rather than inventing a Kp index.

What our servers record

Cloudflare. Requests to the feed pass through Cloudflare, our network and security provider. Like any internet service in that position, Cloudflare receives your IP address and standard request details, such as the URL, time, and User-Agent, in order to route, protect, and deliver the request. Cloudflare handles that data under its own privacy policy. We see only aggregated traffic statistics from Cloudflare and have not set up any export of its per-request logs.

Our feed server. For each request, the feed server writes a log line with the time, the requested path (for example /v1/history?hours=24&res=10m), and the response status. It does not log your IP address, because requests reach it through a local proxy and the logged address is the proxy’s own. It does not log your User-Agent. To prevent abuse, the feed server keeps your IP address in memory for about two minutes to count requests; it is never written to disk. We use these lines to keep the feed running and to diagnose problems. The server’s database holds observatory readings only, never anything about you.

Errors. Our web proxy keeps no access log for the feed. If it hits an error while forwarding a request, its error log may record that request, including the IP address Cloudflare forwarded and the request headers. We use those entries only to diagnose the fault.

Retention and deletion. These logs are rotated automatically. The system journal deletes its oldest entries when it reaches its size limit, so it has no fixed retention period. A second copy in the system log is rotated weekly and deleted after about five weeks. The logs are not included in our backups. Because the feed logs hold no account or identifier, we cannot pick out your requests to delete them individually; they age out on that schedule. We do not use any of this to identify you, build profiles, or advertise, and we do not combine it with other data.

What is stored on your device

On-device storage holds your feed URL override, onboarding and lore settings, and your completed-session library. None of this is uploaded.

Sensors

The optional Local Field readout uses the phone’s magnetometer. It is off by default. It measures the phone’s own magnets — not the Schumann resonance, which is far below the sensor’s noise floor — and the UI says so. Magnetometer readings never leave the device.

EarthTune does not use the camera, microphone, location, contacts, HealthKit, or advertising identifiers.

Analytics and tracking

None. EarthTune contains no third-party analytics SDKs, no advertising identifiers, and no cross-app tracking.

Third parties

App distribution is handled by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy. Cloudflare carries feed traffic as described above. Our server fetches spectrograms from the stations we credit in-app and space-weather data from NOAA SWPC; those requests come from our server and carry nothing about you. We do not sell or share personal information.

Children

EarthTune is a general-audience wellness instrument. It is not directed to children, and it has no accounts or profiles through which personal information could be collected.

Your controls

Clear the session library by deleting sessions or deleting the app. Magnetometer access can be revoked in iOS Settings. Clearing the feed URL does not stop network requests; Airplane Mode does, and sessions keep running on the labeled fallbacks. There is no account to close.
